Inspired by the international Nuit Blanche movement that began in Paris in 2002 and came to Australia as White Night Melbourne in 2013, White Night Ballarat is an all-night, free, cultural event – the first of its kind in regional Australia. It is the city as you know it, but reimagined and transformed under the ephemeral cloak of night. A night where the surreal seems real, White Night Ballarat is a rare opportunity to experience the city in a different light. The event will weave a spell over the city’s CBD, transforming the impossible into the possible through installation, lighting, exhibitions, street performances, film, music, dance and interactive events.
White Night Ballarat is on Saturday 17 March 2018, beginning at 7pm and running non-stop, rain, hail or shine, until 2am. As one of the city’s most popular events, it will get crowded at times. Knowing what to expect will help you make the most of your night. Now in its second year, Ballarat’s White Night was the first event of its kind in regional Australia, attracting an audience of up to 40 000 people across every age group in 2017.
The White Night Ballarat precinct takes over the heart of Ballarat, focusing on Lydiard Street and Sturt Street. Prominent program pieces as well as food and amenities will be spread throughout this area. There is so much on offer that you don’t need to see everything, but if you want to try, you have all night – so pace yourself. Take advantage of the quieter spaces to rest and recharge and enjoy your evening.
