Tampere Film Festival is one of Europe’s most important short film festivals, accredited by the film producers’ society. Since its start in 1969, it has grown steadily, attracting tens of thousands of attendees every year. In 2026, the festival will showcase around 500 films alongside supporting seminars and activities, offering film fans a unique and enriching experience.
Each year, the festival brings together over 30,000 film enthusiasts, both professionals and amateurs. The core program features International and National Short Film Competitions, with around 4,000 submissions annually. Approximately 110 films from 40 countries are selected for screening. The International Competition is recognized as one of the world’s most prestigious short film competitions, qualifying for Oscar®, BAFTA, and EFA nominations. The National Competition highlights current documentaries and Finnish short films, serving as a key platform for local filmmakers.
Beyond competitions, the festival offers Special Programmes such as retrospectives, tributes, curated selections, and documentaries. Attendees can also enjoy panels, seminars, and workshops designed for both professionals and the public. Complementing the screenings, art exhibitions and live music at clubs provide a vibrant social atmosphere, making the festival a dynamic gathering for creatives.
Outside the festival dates, Tampere Film Festival actively promotes Finnish and European short films through collaborations with various European and Asian festivals. The festival is organized by the Tampere Film Festival association, founded in 1969, continuing its mission to unite film lovers worldwide.
