Winter Wonderland is located in the heart of London in Hyde Park. As one of the capital’s 8 royal parks, Hyde Park is visited by millions of Londoners and tourists every year. Covering 350 acres, it’s home to a number of famous landmarks including the Serpentine Lake, Speakers’ Corner and Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain.
For over 10 years, Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland has been spreading the Christmas spirit throughout London.
The festival has become a landmark event for Londoners and tourists alike. With humble beginnings as an open-air Christmas market in Hyde Park, Winter Wonderland has since grown into an extravaganza with ice skating, shows, roller coaster rides, street food stalls, festive bars and live music. It is still free to enter the Winter Wonderland grounds and take in the joyous atmosphere. With over 100 spectacular rides and attractions, it is no wonder why thousands of visitors return to Winter Wonderland each year to celebrate the Christmas season.
What are Winter Wonderland’s most popular activities?
For complete information on the event this year, check back closer to the date, however in 2021, you may have taken part in these Winter Wonderland activities:
- Stepped into the Magical Ice Kingdom, a fantasy palace with forest glades, sorcerers and more.
- Soared into the sky on the iconic Giant Observation Wheel and seen the twinkling London lights below.
- Rode a traditional carousel or braved the giant loops of nine different rollercoasters at the fairground.
- Created your very own ice sculpture at the Ice Sculpting workshops
- Marvelled at the acrobatic wonders at a circus show.
- Skated to live music on the Winter Wonderland ice rink, the UK’s largest outdoor rink.
Winter Wonderland’s Christmas markets
One of the biggest Christmas markets in London, the traditional Christmas market will be open in 2021. It will have charming chalets filled to the brim with festive goods. Additionally, you could look for uncommon and distinctive presents, handicrafts, toys, jewelry, and home decor.
What are the best family activities at Winter Wonderland?
You could have experienced these Winter Wonderland family activities in 2021:
- Enjoyed carousel and helter-skelter rides at the traditional fairground with young kids or given older children adrenaline-fuelled rides on the Winter Wonderland rollercoasters.
- Been enchanted by daytime shows, which included Zippos Christmas Circus and Cirque Beserk.
- Stepped into Winter Wonderland Santa’s Grotto in Santa Land, where the little ones could meet Father Christmas and get a small free gift (if they’d been good of course!)

- Warmed up at the Fire Pit bar with its crackling fires and uplifting live music.
- Wrapped up and relaxed with a cocktail at Bar Ice, where the bar, tables and even glasses are made of ice. Booking in advance is essential.
- Enjoyed craft ales, hot chocolate and warming food in giant tipis at Thor’s Tipi. Snuggled up by the log fires, grabbed a blanket and escaped the cold outside.
