The Berlin International Film Festival, also called the Berlinale, is one of the world’s leading film festivals and most reputable media events. It is held in Berlin, Germany. Founded in West Berlin in 1951 at the initiative of U.S. Film officer Oscar Martay, the festival has been celebrated annually in February since 1978. With 274,000 tickets sold and 487,000 admissions it is considered the largest publicly attended film festival worldwide.

he 76th Berlin International Film Festival will open at the Berlinale Palast on February 12, 2026, with the world premiere of The Glass Horizon, a visually striking and emotionally charged drama by acclaimed director Lucía Moreno. Known for her lyrical storytelling and intimate portrayals of human connection, Moreno makes her Berlinale debut with a film already generating early awards buzz.

Over the years, the Berlinale has proudly showcased the work of visionary filmmakers, including Wes Anderson, who previously presented three films in the Berlinale Competition: The Royal Tenenbaums (2002), The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2005), and The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), which opened the 64th Berlin International Film Festival and won the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize.
