A South Pacific beach, a picturesque natural park, a lineup of eclectic musical acts and costumes galore – this, my festival-loving friends, is where it’s at. Splore (which means “to carouse or frolic”) promises to be a “boutique music and arts festival like no other”. A three day entertainment extravaganza & New Zealand’s greatest dress up party. And it delivers, starting with its stage schedule of performance-based musical acts from home and abroad, both known and soon-to-be-known. Then there’s the art, which includes artist-designed walking trails as well as workshops, poetry, flash mobs and things called “happenings” and “disruptions”.
With five separate campsites and a variety of activities on offer, Splore manages to be family-friendly and fun-loving at the same time. Join a yoga session or a craft-making workshop; explore the Tapapakanga Park; hang out on the beach all day and dance all night. Whatever you do, don’t forget your fancy dress costume. It’s the best sort of party. But it’s more than a party, it’s a community. To come to Splore is to be part of Splore. Be kind, be respectful, be up for it.
Every moment at Splore is special, but Saturday night is when things really step out. Its about carnival, colour and costume. You can get t ogether with your friends and dress to this year’s theme, or just to how you feel.
Featuring an array of extraordinary talents, Splore is guaranteed to surprise and delight with shows, workshops, happenings, flash mobs and disruptions, to view, experience and participate.
Dedicated curators put together Splore’s arts programme, which encompasses performances, happenings and installations. Take a break from dancing and immerse yourself in the shimmering, spooky delights of the arts trail. Indeed across the entire site there are wonders that surprise and delight.
Ideas matter, and the time for talking about them is Saturday morning at THE LISTENING LOUNGE. A curated programme of panellists and speakers talk about things that matter – from drug reduction to science and building better cities. You’ll also be able to listen some of the top artists from Splore’s music lineup.
