Amsterdam Light Festival is an annual light art festival in the city center of Amsterdam. Light art is a relatively young art form that experiences a great growth because of the LED revolution. Light is a versatile and highly visual ‘material’ that can be used both abstract and figurative. Both forms are reflected in the artworks of the festival.
Amsterdam Light Festival offers a stage to light artist from all over the world by presenting their work in the city for two months. The festival stimulates these artists to push their own boundaries. Through a worldwide distributed Call for Concepts they submit groundbreaking concepts. A jury selects the artworks that will become part of the festival.
The festival will dazzle Amsterdam residents and visitors for the eleventh year in a row with a route made up of 20–30 works of (international) art. Get to know the artworks, artists, and festival theme in-depth with one of our cruise or walk excursions this winter.
The light art pieces can be seen in the city center every day from 17:00 to 23:00 (on New Year’s Eve, till 20:00) for more than 50 days in December and the first few weeks of January. Take a boat or walk through the festival, and use the (audio) tour to discover everything there is to know about the artworks and artists.
