Vazisubani Estate

The estate has been developed in XIX c. by a generous young Georgian prince. The latter was also the owner of the most beautiful palace located on the outer edge of Vazisubani village, namely, on the mountain hill of Gombori. The palace building was surrounded by vineyards that were amazingly well-cared-for. By the harvest taken from these vineyards usually the extraordinary Kakhetian wine was made in the enormous pitchers. In early period everything was just as colorful and magnificent there as the view spread out from the balcony of the Chavchavadze’s palace that integrated into itself the haughty mountain range of the Caucasus including the marvel of nature, Alazani Valley, laid at the foot of it.

“Royal Khvanchkara” is a company created on the basis of the winemaking traditions of Racha, one of the most picturesque regions of Georgia. “Royal Khvanchkara” at the same time continues and replicates the globally unique method of winemaking invented by Georgian people in the distant past. The uniqueness stems from the vineyards of the company. They are cultivated in Racha, situated on the right bank of Rioni River, namely, on the southern slope of the Lechkhumi mountain ridge, about 750-800 meters above sea level. Exactly here, the oldest local grapevine species: Aleksandrouli, Mujuretuli, Tsolikouri, Usakhelouri exposed to1400 sunshine hours each year, are grown in the purest ecological environment, on the terrain with the ideal soil and climate, mild temperature and humidity together with the lowest radiation possible. All these serve as model conditions for creating the following wines: “Khvanchkara”, “Tvishi” and “Usakhelouri”.

Chateau Mukhrani

CHM New LogoChâteau Mukhrani is based on the historical tradition of wine-making in Mukhrani region. This is the first and the only true Georgian Royal Chateau, which unites four key components: vineyards, winery, castle and history. In 1512 Mukhrani became the prince’s estate, governed by Bagrationi royal family. Mukhranian wine production was established by Ivane Mukhranbatoni a famous representative of royal family, political and public figure of the 19th century. In 1876, Ivane Mukhranbatoni returned from France with Chateau concept knowledge and since then the history of Château Mukhani’s winemaking starts.

During the Soviet time Château Mukhrani was abandoned and almost destroyed. In 2002, a group of businessmen, Frederik Paulsen, Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze laid basis for restoration of the project of Château Mukhrani. Group intended to revive the estate to its former glory and re-establish production at Mukhrani, combining modern and traditional technologies. New investment group aims to create strong international brands, which will serve as a profound representative of Georgian wine on international market.

In 2007, major investment was made in new winery of Château Mukhrani. Now it is equipped with ultra-modern technology and corresponds with ISO 9001:2005 Food Safety and ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management standards.

Along with modern winery, Château Mukhrani Cellar was also reconstructed, returning to  unique origin, which has great historical value. Today the cellar is fully reconstructed and stores more than 1000 barrels of wine at constant temperature of 16C.

Since 2007, Château Mukhrani is making wine from grapes harvested in its own vineyards. To make the wine more exquisite and truly unique, winery receives grapes for processing maximum in 15 minutes from harvesting.
